The Descendants

This evening we saw The Descendants, one of this year Oscar nominees for best movie award. I have to say a few words while "the taste" is still fresh. First I will always love George Cloney no matter how old he gets, he is just one of my favorite all time actors. But enough about my subjective actors favorites...the movie is just great. Is the kind of story that gets to you, because it's about family, about life, about what it offers and what we take from it. My favorite scene is the one he says goodbye to her: "Goodbye my love, goodbye my friend. My pain. My Joy. Goodbye. It just sums what it means to love and to forgive. I hope you will watch it and love it! Let me know when you do :)

Pieces of everyday life

Retro hairstyle that I tried on New Years because this year is
all going to be about Vintage

My roommates cat, Mitzi. She is a cutie and she is not afraid of the cold.
I would love to have her energies :)

Last Sunday, at Babu's

Hello Cupcake! Again LV has the best window display.
I want a cupcake :)

Carrot cake, made last weekend. I got the recipe from a colleague
that in his young years was a chef and it is just the best carrot cake one can make.

On Friday I had my first hairdresser appointment in Switzerland and it was great.
Caroline, my new stylist did a great job in changing my color.

Today's Breakfast - tortilla with poached eggs, tomatoes, ham and
goat cheese.

As you might have noticed my posting has been more of a weekly thing lately. I can't say I like it but I am having a bit of a hard time managing my time. And I always feel like I should do something else instead of what I am actually doing. Not a great feeling but I blame it on the weather. Winter -  not my best friend, because of the cold, of the lack of sun and the rain/snow makes me just want to stay indoors and hibernate. I so envy people that have the sun and the warm weather all year long. Nevertheless, have a great week!

Apartment inspiration

Not much to say about last week, maybe just that we are house hunting and every place we see, we love. It will be crazy hard to decide on the right apartment, and even harder to decorate it. But until then, let me show you a few inspiration pictures, that luckily I will be able to incorporate in our new place. I love imagining living in the following decors:

I love white in a house, it makes everything look brighter, cleaner, and more spacious.

Don't you just find the big windows great? Everything looks effortless in this decor, which proves that it does not take much to make a fancy home.

How is this for a relaxing corner? Books, mandatory in any house if you ask me.

We have tons of pictures, so a wall like this is on my list.

Bedroom idea, so cozy.

Now this is a walk-in closet. I girl can only dream...

I love colors and I find this combination very fancy. When do we eat?

Pergola dinning room, I love it, perfect for a sunny afternoon. Let the dreaming begin...

I was awarded: Creative Blog Award

I got my first award as a blogger, and I am immensely happy to honor it with a post. The award came from one of my fellow bloggers, Linda-Lost in Switzerland, that is a huge inspiration and that was kind enough to think of me for this Creative Blog Award. As any blog award it comes with some rules that I share with you:

  1. Link back to the person who gave you this award.
  2. Complete the form below.
  3. Award 5 to 10 blogs and let them know in a comment or e-mail (I amended this rule a bit, I hope I am allowed).
  4. Share 7 random thoughts about yourself.

  • NAME YOUR FAVORITE SONG: Oh this is hard, because you cannot have only one favorite song. Let's say that now I could listen to this: Kings of Leon, Talihina Sky all day long.
  • NAME YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT: Cupcakes
  • WHAT TICKS ME OFF: Children suffering, injustice, cruelty and violence against the weaker ones...
  • WHEN I'M UPSET I: I talk about it with my closest ones and try to focus on the bright and positive side (not always easy to do). And never forget that after the rain, comes the sun.
  • WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PET: A cat and a dog, I could never decide between this two. We will get a cat this year but I am sure we will also get a dog when the time comes.
  • BLACK OR WHITE: Black
  • BIGGEST FEAR: Rats (even writing the word makes me feel sick)
  • EVERYDAY ATTITUDE:

  • WHAT IS PERFECTION: An ideal that we will never achieve. And that we don't have to achieve...
  • GUILTY PLEASURE: Celebrity gossip, more exactly, People magazine.
7 random thoughts about myself
  1. I don't drive, even though I have a driving licence.
  2. After a long week I like to just relax watching my favorite TV series in bed with a cup of tea.
  3. When we travel by car I don't like to talk, I just like to be with my thoughts, looking through the window...I know, it sucks for the driver!
  4. I believe in loyalty and when someone breaks the trust I have in them, I can never look at them as before.
  5. I could shop a few hours a day, every day...
  6. A good outfit, or a nice pair of shoes make me feel like I could conquer the world.
  7. I have an artistic side that comes out only when I am in the best of moods: singing. I am very bad at it and I don't know the complete lyrics of any song, but this does not stop me from performing.
And the award goes to:

Chanel from By way of ney
Vanessa (the gal) from A Fashion gal & a fireman
Annuschka from Ivy Blaise blog
Mihaela from El mundo en colores

Happy Birthday, Camelia!

This post is about friendship, about one of my dearest friends Camelia. It's her Birthday today and since I can't wish her happy birthday in person I will do it through my blog. Me and Cami we go a long way back, and even if we haven't been living in the same city since forever we always managed to keep in touch. I know I can turn to her when I am looking for advice, when I am happy, when I am sad, when I fell like celebrating or when I just want to feel sorry for myself. And I just hope that she knows that too, cause my dear Cami I think you are one of a kind and you are very special to me. I hope you had a fabulous day cause you deserve it. Miss you! And now a trip down memory lane...

Do you fondue?

Have you seen the movie Captain America? It's not the best movie in the world, I'd say it's the usual superhero Hollywood movie that you watch when you just want to get cozy on your nice couch. (or at least that's how I watched it). The reason I am mentioning this movie is because it has this funny scene, that revolves around the meaning of fondue. I am not going to get into the details but let's just say that this line "Do you fondue?" stuck with us and especially on Saturday when I did my first fondue at home. I got the fondue set for Christmas and we had our first fondue dinner at home. It was delicious, maybe a bit too much wine in the recipe but all in all it was great. Ah and if you thought that fromage fondue is a French thing, think again, because it is as Swiss as it can be (I made that mistake).

So do you like fondue? Did I get you in the mood for some melted cheese?

Hello 2012, nice to have you here!

A year ago I started this blog and wrote my fists post. I remember thinking if I was up to the challenge, but as everything in life you have to take it step by step (sometimes baby steps) and figure out things as you go along. And I'm so glad I did, because I have discovered such a beautiful world. I just hope that I can give something back because I take so much from you, my fellow bloggers. For this new year I wish to find more time and inspiration to write and maybe even start a series of posts about travelling. But all in due time...

Now let me show you some of my plans for 2012, the oh so famous New Year Resolutions, put very randomly:

  • Continue to travel, to see new places and keep that tourist vibe alive. So far we have planned to see London in the summer.
  • Get to see our favorite bands perform live in concert. In 2010 we saw U2 and those 2 hours in Istanbul are in the TOP 5 moments I want to remember. This year it's Coldplay in June and in March, Parov Stelar band in Zurich.
  • Start reading fantasy literature. The Twilight books were the closest I got to this category and this year I made a promise that I will stat with the first Harry Potter book.
  • Get a cat. I have wanted a cat for a long time, but we always found a very good reason not to. This year the decision was made and we will have a new family member.
  • Get a new apartment. It is planned to happen in April and it will be a bit of a headache with the moving and decorating but it will be all worth it in the end.
  • Plan our wedding for September 2012. Again something that will keep me very busy but so worth it.
  • Make as much time for my great husband and spend time relaxing as intense and as much as possible. The months I have been out of work in 2011 I've felt the most relaxed in a very long time, and I plan to get that feeling back as much as possible this year but while holding my job. (I am aware of the challenge)
  • Make the most of my new job. Get better and better at what I do, continue to learn and improve myself.
  • Make more time for our family and friends. Always a priority but never enough to satisfy everyone, so this year has to be even more about our loved ones.
  • Learn to ski or snowboard. We have already booked a weekend this winter in Davos, just to learn how to ski. I just hope I will have it in me... I am such a chicken when it comes to winter sports...very bad girl!
  • Stay healthy and fit. I've never been a sports person and I always have to work hard to convince myself to be more active. I have to try harder and harder to stay fit...(Trying to imagine myself in my forties might help, or not :))
